About the event
Does your child love being outside, always getting dirty, or adding a new cool nature notice for their nature museum? Then join Among the Ferns for the Junior Naturalist series! This series of events gives children ages 6+ the opportunity to explore, learn, and build a deep appreciation for the outdoors. Each gathering will have a new topic, so we'll always be learning something new.
WHO SHOULD JOIN?
These gatherings are open to children ages 6+ with their favorite adult*. Please note that younger siblings are welcome, but all activities will be geared towards (and may only be safe for) ages 6+ and we will only have enough materials for age appropriate participants.
*There are a few drop-off spots available at each gathering. If you are interested in dropping off, please make note on the registration page and we'll reach out.
SCHEDULE
These gatherings take place every other month starting August 2023.
WHAT HAPPENS AT A JUNIOR NATURALIST EVENT?
We'll start each event with a chance to get to know each other and explore some nature artifacts, resources related to that gathering's topic, and some games. We're not just cultivating naturalist skills at these events, we're also building friendships. So, time to socialize and connect will be a key component.
After some time to settle in, Emily will demonstrate a few skills or introduce a big idea. Then, the Junior Naturalsits take over! Some events might include the chance to take home a created materials, but Junior Naturalists are guaranteed to leave each event with new knowledge.
WHERE WILL WE MEET?
Some of these gatherings will take place in my backyard, while others will take place in surrounding natural spaces. Exact locations will be shared before each gathering, but they will all take place around Shohola.
WHAT IS MY INVESTMENT?
Nature connection should never be cost prohibitive, but all proceeds from these gathering go to cover materials and to help Among the Ferns offer more ways for families to get outside together. Each session is $15* (when accompanied by an adult) and we'll provide all of the materials as well as herbal tea and light snacks. Payment is required at least two weeks before the session(s). If you would like to register for multiple sessions, you'll receive a $5 discount per session ($10* per session). We require a minimum of 5 Junior Naturalists to host each event, so tell your friends!
*These rates apply to one participating Junior Naturalists. Participating siblings can join for an additional $5. Younger, non-participating siblings and accompanying adults are free. For drop-off, the rate is $20 per child.
